Joe Bleifuhs

Bleifuhs, Joe FITCHBURG-Joe Bleifuhs, age 69, of Fitchburg, passed away on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at his home, with wife, Linda, and cousin, Nancy at his side. He was born on July 2, 1945, in Madison, the son of Frank and Josephine Bleifuhs. Joe married Linda Hess on Aug. 9, 1986, in Monona. He attended Edgewood High School and upon graduation he went into the U.S. Navy. Joe served on the U.S.S. Hornet from 1963 until 1967, during the Vietnam War. He flew in rescue missions for the pick-up of fellow soldiers during the Vietnam Era. Joe was in the auto business for most of his adult life, working for Schmidt’s Auto Inc. Joe was an avid sports enthusiast, especially his beloved Packers. He loved all animals, but was especially crazy about his dogs, Lily and Zola. Shortly following his retirement in February, 2012, Joe was diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer in June. He is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Mark and Steve; brother, Jim (Joan) Bleifuhs and their four daughters and their families; and brother-in-law, Roger Marheine and Roger’s son and daughter-in-law. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Althea Marheine; and his Great Dane, Henry. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at Noon, on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, with military rights, and a luncheon to follow. Burial will take place at National Cemetery in California. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Additionally, the family would like to acknowledge Mindy Hartgers and the chemotherapy staff of Mayo Clinic, Dean Clinic Oncology Department, including Dr. J. Heun, along with Kat and Erin at Agrace HospiceCare. “You left me peaceful memories, your love is still my guide and though I cannot see you, you are always at my side.
