Obituary

MADISON - Patricia Ann (Aspel) Clark, age 94, of Madison passed peacefully on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, at St. Mary’s Care Center. Pat was born in Madison on April 23, 1929, to Mary (Biser) and James Aspel.


Pat attended Blessed Sacrament and Edgewood High School. As beloved wife of Bob Clark they raised 13 children. Pat worked as a CNA at UW Hospitals and Clinics. In addition to working full time and raising a family she also found time to volunteer as a Eucharistic Minister at local hospitals for many years.


Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Clark; siblings, Tom, Kay, Peggy and Buck; and children, Toni, Joseph and Laura (Hansen). She is survived by her children, Mary (Tom) Riddle, Margaret (Andy) Cybularz, Paul Hansen (son-in-law), Deborah (Doug) Clemens, JoEllen (Steven) Malara, Pamela Crowe, Michael (Candi) Clark, Julie (Robert) Wall, Edward (Debbie) Clark, Karyn (Carlos) Chacon and Joan (Michael) Snedeker; “bonus son” Jeff Hermanson; along with 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.


Known by the neighborhood children as Mom, Grandma, Aunt Pat or Mrs. Clark she welcomed those who crossed her threshold, offering a meal at the table for 16 or a warm bed for the night and anything else they needed.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, with Deacon Dave Hendrickson presiding. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.


Memorials in Pat’s name may be made to Salvation Army or a Dane County food distribution center.

My mom shared much love and wisdom. The memory I often land on is when she (and my dad…mostly my dad) was not agreeing with some of my choices. My dad was just trying to make me change my choices and my mom said “I don’t have to agree with everything you do to love you.” We need that wisdom so much, Thanks mom! 😊😇

I had the great privilege and pleasure of zooming with my mom every night for over 3 years. I treasure our chats, our sing-alongs, tracking grizzly #399, sharing the delight of watching internet videos of toddlers hear or see well for the first time, and seeing her bask in the joy of having several family members join us on zoom for special occasions. My mother loved us fiercely and unconditionally, and she has set the motherhood bar way too high for the rest of us. I aspire to be as grand, elegant, and wise.
