It was very special to have our mothers together at All Saints and to spend time talking and sharing with Bernice. She was an amazing woman and we reminisced about our time in "Springdale" when we were neighbors. We know that she so looked forward to her 100th birthday. By that time, mom had moved to another place and it was much harder to stay in touch. Life does change quickly. We love her nickname "The Colonel" and feel it did suit her well. She was very proud of all of her kids and could go down the list about who lived where and who did what, etc. You were blessed to have such a wonderful mother. We think of both of our moms and being reunited in heaven and continuing their cooking for others and singing/playing piano in their heavenly choir. She will be missed.

There are way too memories of my Aunt Bernice to list. Our sympathies to all the Hughes family - Jane, Rosemary, David, Carol, Rita and Diane. Mike and I loved our visits with Bernice over the years and all the tales she had to tell. Beth and Mike

My condolences to my Hughes cousins on the death of my Aunt Bernice. I had no idea she was called the "Colonel", but it was very fitting. And very humorous. Bernice put the "F" in Fiesty. I got to know Bernice better after Mom died, and Bernice would come to Dodgeville to get her hair done. We would meet at Culver's for lunch. She had the most fantastic memory, and I learned a lot of family history. I wish that these lunches/visits would have started earlier. And while I witnessed her in the Colonel role while growing up, I had no idea what a sense of humor she had. She could be hilarious. She never minced words, and there were times I laughed so hard that I had tears. My favorite memory was reuniting Bernice and her dear friend Mary K. who had been college roommates long ago. Bernice was coming to my house, and I arranged for Mary K. to stop over as a surprise, since Mary K. lived in MIneral Pojnt . What fun to see them sitting alone recalling the old days. They sat alone in my front living room, and the short visit turned into talking for well over an hour. Bernice will be missed by many. Love, Cindy
