Obituary

Fitchburg - Albert Roger “Bert” Beecher, age 78, of Fitchburg, passed away at home under the loving care of his wife and family on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022. He was born on Aug. 3, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Carlyle Beecher and Carolyn (Richardson) Beecher.

Growing up, Bert worked with Dwight Massey on his farm; Dwight brought Bert in as if he was family. Bert graduated from Hollandale High School.  He married Carol Eddingsaas on Sept. 14, 1971.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. Bert was a turbine helicopter mechanic, stationed at Fort Belvoir, Va.

Bert worked 25 years as a meat cutter for Oscar Mayer. In 1994 his diagnosis was a brain tumor, an Anaplastic Astrocytoma grade 3.  His prognosis was 6-12 months. Bert was courageous, hardworking, strong and loved life. He was in many clinical trials. Bert was truly a miracle despite his many disabilities, due to the tumor.  He lived life to the fullest. Bert lived 28 years with the tumor!!!  Early in the morning of October 30, Bert made a big home run to his heavenly home.  Bert loved Jesus and He loved Bert. We must now learn to live with his big heart in ours. To enjoy our earthly life like he did with courage and grace and that inner contentment he always had.  God comes to us through each other. May we feel God’s love through others. Bert’s journey was extended due to the kind and compassionate care he received, which was led by his loving wife, Carol, and supported by the doctors, nurses and other health care providers who cared for him.

Bert enjoyed nature and outdoor activities. He loved to go hunting and fishing, often sharing these hobbies with his son and friends. He also enjoyed playing softball and was in several different leagues. Card playing, and spending time with friends and family were also some of Bert’s passions.

Bert is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Carlyle R. Beecher; daughter, Jennie (Travis) Helminiak; grandchildren, Claire Beecher, Brooke Beecher, Macklin Helminiak and Everleigh Helminiak; sisters, Mary Lou Blotz, Mary Helen Cacciotti, Ginny (Earl) McNeill and Carol (Larry) Moore; brother, David (Karen) Beecher; sister-in-law, Nancy (Scott) Hartman; and brothers-in-law, Roger (Margaret) Eddingsaas, Jim Lockhart and Larry Kelly.
