Mariann (Thull) Rush

MADISON - Mariann (Thull) Rush, age 90, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. She was raised in Marinette, Wisconsin. Mariann was brought up by two wonderful parents who loved and embraced her fully. She was forever grateful for all her mother and father did for her throughout her life. Mariann studied and achieved a degree from Ripon College. After graduation she resided comfortably in Madison and loved the life she created for herself.

Mariann later moved to Alexandria, Virginia, making memories with her two growing boys, building lasting relationships and enjoying a booming social life. In 1977, after eight great years in Virginia, Mariann moved back to Madison. Having always felt such a strong connection to the city, she was thrilled to return. She was a successful business woman and owner of "Monroe Restorations," which consisted of renovating homes built primarily from the year 1890-1910. She would after, manage those properties and rent them out, mostly to grad students. This was a profession Mariann did proudly, all her energy and love went into every home. It was her life's greatest work.

She had a deep appreciation for nature and endless thirst for adventure. Exercising her curiosities, Mariann took an aviation class at MATC. With a special teacher providing her inspiration and a good nudge, she geared up for her first course off the ground. Mariann took off, soaring over the Madison terrain with her co-pilot. At a steady spot, she took the wheel, swerving gently among the clouds. Then, unbeknownst to her, the co-pilot turned off the engine! Allowing them to float freely through the sky. An astonished Mariann felt nerves, along with exhilarating joy. This would go down as one of the most incredible moments, and accomplishments in Mariann's life.

For those of you who know Mariann, you know she was born with originality and color for the masses. Her spunk and sociability gave her the idea of starting a popular singles club. She had wonderful experiences. However, they were balanced by hard times and tragedies. Several life altering illnesses shook Mariann, nevertheless her strength and perseverance saw her though them all. In her later years she relished in the time spent with close friends and family. Her regular trips to beloved Indian restaurant, "Amber" were never missed. As a bright and witty conversationalist, Mariann captivated many with her wise lessons and extraordinary stories. Her light and love will be forever missed.
