James "Jimmy" Latham

July 24, 1937 - August 27, 2026

Obituary

James “Jimmy” Latham, age 89, peacefully passed away with family by his side on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at UW Hospital and Clinics.

Jimmy was born July 24, 1937, the son of the late James and Marie (Roelke) Latham. A 1956 graduate of Lodi High School, he made Lodi his home and his life’s work. On Nov. 11, 1961 he married Mary Margaret Schiffman and shared 65 years of marriage and a deep, steady companionship.

Jimmy worked for the Maintenance Department of the State of Wisconsin until his retirement. He took pride in his craftsmanship - woodworking was a lifelong passion - and he loved the simple pleasures of cribbage and cards, especially a good game of Euchre. An avid fan of the Brewers, the Packers and the Badgers, he could be found cheering for his teams and settling in to watch westerns on television. Above all, Jimmy treasured time with his family; his greatest joy was being close to those he loved.

He is survived by his wife Mary Margaret; his children Valerie (David) Lawry, Dawn Schroeder and Gregory (Sarah) Latham; seven grandchildren, Jason (Shelby) Schroeder, Jessica Miller, Danielle (Alex) Zewde, Jodi Lawry, Alisha Latham, Megan Latham and Hannah Latham; three great-grandchildren, Riley Schroeder, Karlee Schroeder and Zoey Schroeder; his sister Marlene Ziegler; and his brothers Wallace (Doreen) Latham, Doug (Lynn) Latham and Rodney (Jan) Latham. He was preceded in death by his brother Doyle.

In honoring Jimmy's wishes, an invite only celebration of his life will be held at Reach Out Lodi. Until then, family and friends remember a man whose steady presence, gentle humor, and love for the simple pleasures of life brought warmth to every room he entered. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Jimmy shared a deep friendship with, and was like a brother to, my father. Our families shared a lot of time and wonderful adventures together. I will always treasure the memories we made celebrating family events and holidays; especially our annual New Year’s Eve parties. I can only imagine the wonderful reunion he is having with my father. Rest in peace dear friend.

So many wonderful things could be shared about Uncle Jimmy. It wasn't until my grandfathers passing that I realized he wasn't actually his brother or my uncle! As a child, I have so many fond memories of tagging along to the antique malls with Mary, Jimmy and my grandparents or hanging out with Grandpa and Jimmy while woodworking. They instilled in me the love of all things old that can be made new again! After Grandpa passed, visiting with Jimmy was like being with grandpa again. One thing I know for certain, there was one hell of a cribbage game in Heaven last Thursday! Love and prayers to the Latham Family! Monica Hernandez Siegfried
