MOUNT HOREB / MIDDLETON - Malcolm H. Einerson, age 97, of Middleton, passed away on August 22, 2026.

Mal was born during a snowstorm on the Einerson Homestead in Blanchardville, Wis., on February 8, 1929. The son of Herbert and Rose (Stephenson) Einerson, he attended numerous schools in SW Wisconsin before graduating from Mount Horeb High School in 1947.

Mal served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950-52 as a radio operator in Germany. On March 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to Vietta Mullen when they eloped to Dubuque, Iowa.

He worked at Sub-Zero Freezer Company in the early years of the company from 1947-59. He then joined the Dane County Highway Department. Ultimately becoming a proud union representative with AFSCME for 20 years before retiring in 1984. We believe he is now organizing the angels.

Mal enjoyed family trips when the kids were young, horse racing, and watching the Badgers basketball and football and the Green Bay Packers. And, of course, his nightcap of Korbel brandy.

He fondly recalled playing cards with family and friends, especially at the Wisconsin Boys State Basketball Tournaments. One of his favorite stories was when he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War, he would sign up for guard duty and walk through the mess hall to get butter for the lefse his mother sent him.

Mal will fondly be remembered for his storytelling and his knowledge of all roads and highways in the state of Wisconsin having traveled over a million miles during his career. He often mentioned having lived a long and rewarding life.

Mal is survived by his children, Dale (Judi) and Karen (Cordell); five grandsons, Justin (Britt), Kasey (Andrea), Keegan (Amanda), Peyton and Bryson; granddaughter-in-law, Molly; six great-grandchildren, Luke, Reese, Kate, Bowen, Micah and Zayne; brother, Gary; and his nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vietta; parents; grandson, Logan; brother, Ron; brother-in-law, Doug Mullen; and sisters-in-law, Delores Einerson, Sandi Einerson and Shirley Mullen.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
