Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Kenneth Nathan Landen, a devoted husband, loving father, Air Force veteran, and dedicated community leader, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born on May 29, 1943, Ken graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965 in Fire and Crash Rescue, spending most of his service stationed in Évreux, France. While there, he admired the officers' sports cars, inspiring him to buy his first love upon returning home: a 1965 Triumph TR-4A. The TR became the backdrop for countless adventures.

That same year, 1965, he met the true love of his life, Anna Lee Henningsen. They were married on July 6, 1968, beginning a beautiful 58-year partnership built on devotion, laughter and family.

Following his military service, Ken began his career as an apprentice plumber before launching his own business, Landen Plumbing, in 1985, which he ran for 25 years. He genuinely cared for his clients, treating every home like a neighbor, and holding a special soft spot for those who insisted he enjoy freshly baked cookies before leaving.

His commitment to his community ran deep. Throughout the 1970s, he was active in the Jaycees, serving as President and helping launch a local tradition on the first Frolic Committee. In the 1980s, he served on the Village Board. On Saturday mornings, he taught youth how to bowl in the “Early Birds” and "Late for Lunch” leagues.

An avid golfer, Ken was happiest on the course. He spent many summers with friends golfing at numerous courses. Though health kept him from playing these past few years, he still loved watching matches. He was also a Wisconsin fan who rarely missed a UW basketball or football game, and he loved nothing more than ribbing his brother, a Notre Dame fan.

Above all, Ken’s greatest devotion was to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter and generous service. His daughters will miss his in-person flower deliveries with his simple note, “Love Dad.”

He is survived by his wife, Anna Lee; children, Angela Leuzinger (James) and Alissa Landen (Dan Miller); grandchildren, Travis Leuzinger (Lex) and Jared Leuzinger (Kennedy); sister, Glenys Hastings and her children, Brandon, Mathew (Jen), and Heather (Rich) Thomas; brother, Jon Landen (Tammy) and his children, Lisa (Chris) Kennedy and Eric (Nikki) Landen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and John Monum and their children, Jill Monum (Graeme) and Lynsey (Shane) Weimer; and extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milt and Ginny Landen; in-laws, Stu and Verna Henningsen; and sister-in-law, Patty Landen.

A celebration of life will be held at THE GRUMPY TROLL, 105 S. Second St., Mount Horeb, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026. A private family service will take place at a different time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or toward planting a tree in memory of Ken. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I met Ken shortly after moving to Mt. Horeb in 1985, becoming a bowling team member with him. Later I hired him to do plumbing work on our East Garfield Street house. I certainly can’t claim to know him as well as any Mt. Horeb native. But even though I left town in 1997, I still remember Ken fondly after all these years. He was such a nice person to be around. Having seen his history as written in his obituary, I wish I’d thought back then to have asked him about his early life experiences. RIP, Ken.

Sending much love to the Landen family. Anna Lee and I have been friends since we began working together at the University in 1986 and I remember her bringing Angie and Alissa to the office. I was honored to be included in many of their family celebrations including Ken's 80th birthday. I will always remember his warmth and kindness and admire his strength and courage during difficult times.
