Obituary
STOUGHTON - Nathan C. Gallagher, age 48, of Stoughton, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at home. He was born on June 28, 1977, in Stoughton, the son of Clyde and Kathie (Jacobsen) Gallagher. Nathan was baptized at First Lutheran Church and confirmed at Cooksville Lutheran Church.
Nate grew up on the Gallagher family farm, where he developed the strong work ethic he proudly credited to his parents and family and the values they instilled in him and a love for tractors. Growing up in Cooksville was a ‘80s kid’s paradise. Bike riding, hunting and shenanigans. Right before dark, his mom would holler out, “Kasey, Nathan!” These were the good ‘ol days. One of his childhood activities included being a member of the 4H Triangle Troopers with his sister, Kasey. They showed cattle, dogs and participated in woodworking.
As the only grandson in the Jacobsen Family, Nate was extremely proud of his grandpa’s military career as an accomplished World War II pilot. He enjoyed time golfing with his grandpa at the Stoughton Country Club. He had a strong Norwegian heritage on both sides of the family with deep roots in Stoughton.
Nate graduated from Stoughton High School in 1995. The foundation built on the farm, and later through the Stoughton Wrestling Club, shaped Nate’s character and stayed with him throughout his life. He was proud to be a wrestler and enjoyed watching his sons take to the sport as well. A third-generation bricklayer, Nate, carried on a family legacy he was deeply proud of. His Great-Great Grandfather, Ted Jacobsen, marked his work with a scotty dog stamp on the First Lutheran Church. In his early years, he worked as a union mason, and for the past 20 years he dedicated his craft to the University of Wisconsin. He took a lot of pride in his time with the Athletic Department.
Nate loved his life. His boys were his heart and he wanted to create as many memories with them as possible. He loved to laugh, joke around and cook on his smoker and grills. He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially trap shooting and hunting. Some of his most cherished memories were the hunting trips out West with his family, including a special trip this past fall with his son, Jacob. He also enjoyed camping with his boys and friends, snowmobiling, fishing, and spending time on the pontoon.
Throughout his life, Nate was extremely close to his parents and sister, building a homestead next door to his parents in Cooksville. They were loving and supportive to Nate his whole life. Family traditions were deeply important to him, and he carried a lifelong fondness for his childhood in Cooksville, where he formed many lifelong friendships. Animals held a special place in Nate’s heart, and he adored his dogs and cats. He was also a proud lifetime member of the Stoughton Conservation Club, reflecting his love of nature and his commitment to the community.
Nathan is survived by his mother, Kathie Gallagher; father, Clyde Gallagher; sister, Kasey Gallagher; sons, Grady Gallagher and Jacob Gallagher; goddaughter, Rayne Gallagher; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Doris Gallagher and Ralph and Marian Jacobsen; aunt, Tracey Gallagher; and uncle, Steve Gallagher.
A private family burial will be held at Graves Cemetery. A celebration of Nathan’s life will be held at HALVERSON’S EVERYTHING NICE, 1965 Barber Drive, Stoughton, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
