Jason Daniel McGee
March 13, 1969 - April 10, 2025
Obituary
STOUGHTON - Jason Daniel McGee, age 56, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wis., following a valiant fight against prostate cancer.
Jason was born on March 13, 1969, in Darlington, Wis., and spent most of his life in Stoughton, Wis. He attended St. Ann School and Stoughton High School, where he excelled as an athlete, playing baseball and basketball. Many who played with or against him can attest to his competitive nature. That same drive showed throughout his life-whether on the field, in his work or in life.
Jason served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1990 to 1996 as a Machine Gunner with Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, out of Madison. He completed basic training in San Diego, where he graduated with the distinguished title of Honor Man of the platoon-a fitting beginning for a man who approached every challenge with honor and strength.
He went on to dedicate 23 years to the Madison Police Department, primarily serving the Southside and Westside Patrol divisions and the Northeast Community Policing Team. He was, as many colleagues would say, the person you wanted on a call. Jason took the demands of the job to heart, saving lives and treating everyone he encountered with dignity and humanity. To those still serving, he would say, “Stay safe and take care of yourselves.”
At his core, Jason was a family man. He shared a lifelong partnership with his beloved wife, Heather (Robbins), whom he met when she was 16 and he was 17. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around love, loyalty and shared joy. He took deep pride in being a father to Aidan and Cael. Watching them grow into the amazing men they are today was, without question, his greatest happiness.
Jason is survived by his wife, Heather; sons, Aidan and Cael; and his brother, Chris McGee. He was lovingly known as the “fun uncle” to Morgan McGee, Connell McGee, Erika Cuaziti, Jackie McGee, Destiny McGee, Riley Plage, Ellie Mullins, Victoria Robbins and Jackson Robbins. And to the many young men who became a part of the McGee family, Jason was a mentor, protector and friend who was always there to listen and offer support. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Ann McGee; and his nephew, Michel Carpenter.
Jason had a tough exterior, but once you earned his trust and respect, he would do anything for you. He was kind, funny and a gifted storyteller. A perfect day for him meant a warm summer afternoon spent working in the yard, singing on his rider mower, enjoying a cold Bud Light and grilling for the friends who walked through his door. His favorite phrase, “Keep bustin,” says it all: keep pushing, keep living, keep showing up.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Agrace Hospice, and to Bernadette and the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for their compassion and care.
A public celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025. Military honors will begin at 5:40 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VFW Post No. 328 - Stoughton at vfwstoughton.org.
As his doctor said, quoting Vice President Thomas Marshall on the death of Theodore Roosevelt: “Death had to take him sleeping, for if he had been awake, there would have been a fight.”
Jason fought. And he will be remembered for it.
