They spent their early years of married life in Niles, moving to Janesville in 1963. In 2010, they relocated to the Attic Angel community in Middleton to be close to their daughter and family. I found Joan’s picture in the Madison Sunday paper and recognized her name right away. Joan was my part time 6th grade teacher at Westside school in Niles in 1959-60 along with Hester Scott who was the part time principal. I had just moved to Niles that year. We all liked Mrs. Skyles. Her husband was the junior high principal in Niles for my time there. I remember going to meet with him along with a friend. We made a request to be able to wear culottes to school, (and I’d had just sewn a pair) arguing that culottes were more modest. He turned us down. Girls had to wear skirts back then; no exceptions. How dress codes have changed! I moved to Wisconsin in 1970 and live in Middleton. Small world! Sally Robinson Lister
