Obituary

MIDDLETON - Julie Ann Brunette, age 81, peacefully passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, having faced her brief battle with cancer with dignity and courage. She was born on December 22, 1942, in Sheboygan, Wis., the daughter of the late Joseph and Stephie (Zorman) Brunette.

After graduating from Sheboygan South High School in 1961, Julie studied Education and Spanish at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She later continued her education at UW-Madison, receiving her Juris Doctorate law degree in 1985, after which she practiced law in Middleton for 39 years.

Julie was a very engaged and well-respected member of the Middleton community, having been the first woman to: serve as a member of the Optimist Club of Middleton; become President of Middleton Chamber of Commerce; and serve as Chair of the Middleton Fire Commission, to name a few. She also served on the Middleton Finance and Personnel Committee.

She enjoyed friends, gardening, and music, and always loved laughter. Her hobbies included golfing, playing and watching sports, and travel. Her greatest love was for, and her most precious times were with, her children and family. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who cherished every moment.

Julie is survived by her sons, Jason (Jen) Grosh and Ryan (Mandy) Grosh; her six grandchildren, Kaleigh, Sydney, Bryn, Lilia, Avery and Connor; loving extended family; and many dear friends.

Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025. A Memorial Service will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

My first memory of Julie was from her service on the City Council. I was trying to get stop signs installed on Stonefield Road and she adamantly opposed them. We never met at that point, but my opinion was not high. Fast forward a few years and I was running for Mayor. Julie approached me and offered to be my campaign manager. She was just what my campaign needed. She was a whirlwind of activity offering critical advice and tracking local voting trends. All of this while running a successful attorney’s business. I did become mayor and happily appointed Julie to be the city’s resident representative on the Fire Commission. Julie eventually began attending my weekly mayors luncheon group and participated in that right up to the end. Our group is devastated by the passing of this great lady and will truly miss her. RIP my friend… Kurt Sonnentag

I knew Julie as our lawyer and also through my son, Lief Olsen. She shared common sense and often did it with humor. She will be missed and my sincere condolences to her family.

Jason and family, Heartfelt condolences to all. Julie was a special person in my life as through the Optimist years, as my personal attorney and trusted friend. This past fall I watched Julie take the grandkids (with Jason) golfing at Pleasant View... what a wonderful grandma she was.. God Bless All- Tom Johnson

I met Julie in 1964, when both of us were enrolled in a Spanish immersion program in the town of Jalapa in Mexico — Julie was a 21-year-old college student and I was a 16-year-old high school student. Julie took me under her wing, and the two of us and our families have been friends since then. It was great to have Julie to count on; if one of her friends had a problem, we could rely on her to have a common-sense approach to solve it. She was extremely loyal and very generous with her time. And, she was great to be with. There was always a lot of fun and laughter. Above all, she cherished her family, and I know that they will miss her greatly, as will I and the rest of my family.

I don't know the year that I met Julie but it was through my boss and friends at the Three Sisters Cafe. She would join "the guys" for lunch quite often and we enjoyed many laughs together. I think about those good times often. Condolences to the family.
