CROSS PLAINS - Carole Marie Knopp, age 87, of Cross Plains, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Brookdale Middleton Stonefield. She was born on September 5, 1937, in Spencer, the daughter of Randolph and Mabel (Cramer) Facklam.
Carole graduated from Wisconsin Rapids High School and UW-Madison. She was united in marriage to Paul Knopp at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison in 1967. Together they were blessed with two children, Leslie and Graham. Her children fondly recall Carole’s pride in their beautiful homestead and the love she had for the horses that she took care of during their youth.
Carole worked as a teacher for the Madison School District. She was a faithful member of First Unitarian Society Church and American Association of University of Women. She was instrumental in starting the Wausau Conservatory of Music. She was an avid reader and was involved with book clubs and book sales. She loved gardening and maintaining her home and independence. She was a cat lover through and through and wanted to save them all.
Carole is survived by her daughter, Leslie (Carl) Tokarek; son, Graham Knopp; grandchildren, Alex and Anna Tokarek, and Hannah Knopp; and brothers, Randy (Nancy) and Will (Wes). She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Knopp; and parents, Randolph and Mabel.
