I worked in the same unit with Mike at DWD for probably close to 30 years. Everyone at work had the utmost respect for Mike. He was such a hard worker and outside of work he was always willing to lend a helping hand if you needed something. I remember in 1987 buying my first house and Mike asking me if I needed help moving all my things from my apartment into my new home. I gladly accepted his offer. This is just one of the acts of kindness I saw Mike perform over the years. From my viewpoint he was one of those persons that put others first before himself and those kind of people are hard to find. Mike will be missed.

Mike was by far the holiest man I knew from our generation... He wasn't the flashiest, the most athletic, the most intellectual. He was just the very best. Solid. Loyal. Dedicated. Persevering. Mike and I met in college, 1973. He became a close friend of mine, and my entire family, for over 50 years. My wife Maria Elena and I were thrilled when he married Jinja: that he had found a Sweet Lady who saw the "gold" he was. And, Jinja loved and cared for him like no other for 13 years... Mike, you definitely earned your reward. I will pray that you are with the Lord soon, or even now, and with His Holy Mother Mary. I know you'll pray for us: that we can join you in Heaven one day. Jinja, you have my deepest condolences. I am so thankful that one of Mike and I's friends left me know of his death. I was a year ahead of him at Holy Name Seminary and we were proud members of HNS's first wrestling team. Mike and I could not always meet in person but our Christmas letters, I hope, gave each of us inspiration to live our faith through the next year. Mike and I had two different faith paths; I was a teacher, counselor, coach and DRE while Mike was always in the trenches. That was his greatest gift to the Blessed Trinity. I was so blessed to talk to MIke, face to face again, and to meet Jinja last summer. Jinja, you were such a gift from God to Mike. I hoped to see him one more time, but it wasn't in God's plan. I will pray for Mike and for you, Jinja. We all grieve differently; Jinja, I pray that Jesus, Mary and Joseph are with you all the way.
