Obituary
MIDDLETON- On July 27, 2024, exactly 18 months after the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, Mike Nonn died of the disease. Michael Gerard Nonn was the second son of Alfred and Rita (Ziegler) Nonn. He was born on the April 7, 1953, the day of his Aunt Betty’s wedding. His dad proudly made the announcement at the wedding celebration.
After graduating from St. Bernard’s Catholic School, he entered Holy Name Seminary and later, Edgewood College and St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee. Along the way he picked up the desire for service to others, mostly the poor and underserved. Years were spent helping out at the St. Vincent de Paul Society, often bringing his brothers in to help as well. Saturday nights were often spent in ministry at the Dane County Jail. And all the while he was building a reputation as a respected employee of the Department of Workforce Development for the State of Wisconsin. One of his earliest jobs, but the job he talked most about was his work with Gloss All products in Middleton. It was dirty, dusty work, often involving unloading sawdust from box cars, but he loved being able to do it. And if he could help out a brother with a building project of their own, he would.
In 2011, after suffering a stroke while working on his godson’s house project, he decided the single life was no longer for him. Fortunately, Jinja, a longtime friend was willing to share the rest of his life with him. Together they cared for Dad until his passing in 2020, and then spent the rest of Mike’s life in the family home.
Mike is survived by his wife of 13 years, Jinja; brothers, Marv (Vicki), Mel (Lori) and Marcel (Betty); nine nieces and nephews; two stepsons; four step grandsons; and dozens and dozens of cousins. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Cory Nonn.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held ST. BERNARD’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, with Father Brian Dulli and Father Bernie Rott presiding.
