Jerome H. Schey

MONONA - Jerome H. Schey, age 89, of Monona, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on Oct. 29, 1934, in Columbus, Wis., the son of Alexander and Muriel (Ryder) Schey.

Jerome worked at Failinger's General Store from 1950 until graduating from Waterloo High School in 1952. After graduation, he worked at UW Hospital and then joined the U.S. Army, serving until 1959. Jerome met his wife, Marion Erb, while working for Manchester's Department store. They married in 1966, in Mount Vernon. Jerome worked for the State of Wisconsin from 1966 until his retirement in 1996.  After retirement, he volunteered at the St. Stephen’s Food Pantry for 17 years.  He also spent time taking care of his beloved granddaughter, Haley.

Jerome was a good and faithful son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He took good care of his family.  He enjoyed keeping the lawn around his home in tip-top condition.  He also enjoyed cooking for himself and his family.

Jerome spoke often of road trips he’d taken out west with his mother and brother and later trips with his wife to visit family in Tucson, Ariz.

Jerome is survived by his daughter, Christine (Nadine Bergstrom) Schey; son, Mark (Irma) Schey; and granddaughter, Haley (Daniel Faust) Schey. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 42 years, Marion; brother, Eugene Schey; sister, Catherine Weber; and nephews, Kent Schey and Eric Weber.

A memorial service will be held at ST. STEPHEN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5700 Pheasant Hill Road, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, with a luncheon to follow. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. A private burial will follow at a later date.

Jerome’s family would like to thank Agrace Hospice, especially his nurses, CNAs, and social workers for their loving care. They would also like to thank the entire care team at Wildwood Clinic for their compassionate care over the years.
