Obituary
MADISON - Ronald Lee Karnitz, age 81, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024. He was born on May 14, 1943, in Two Rivers, Wis., the son of Herman and Alvina (Duprey) Karnitz.
Ronald’s career started in the bakery industry where he worked for Dick Brothers Bakery, in Manitowoc, and then he came to Madison where he was employed at Gardner Bakery. Later, he switched his field to maintenance. He worked for many different businesses over the years but primarily for UW-Madison Housing. While working at the UW, he met his future wife, Julie Barrette, and they were married on July 8, 2006, in Madison.
Ronald loved hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, and visiting casinos and flea markets. He enjoyed dining at supper clubs for a great old fashioned. He had never been a cat lover, but grew to love and enjoy Julie's cats, Delaney and Mackenzie, and in turn they loved him back.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Julie; his daughters, Christina (Jami Meister) Karnitz and Cher (Corey) Zeddies; grandchildren, Dylan Karnitz, Max Zeddies, Elizabeth and Michael Wech; great-grandchild, Asher Matuszak; sisters, Alice Gauthier, Joan Kocian and Sue Buchholz; parents-in-law, Phil and Doris Barrette; brothers-in-law, Jerry Barrette and Rick (Teresa) Barrette; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Joseph; and son, Ronald Karnitz.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
