CROSS PLAINS- Lori Ann Haack, a cherished mother, grandmother, and devoted wife, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sept. 18, 2023. Her life's journey was a testament to love, family, and unwavering dedication.
Lori was born Jan. 7, 1962, in Waupun, Wis., the first of Kenneth “Ken” and Jan (Mueller) VanEgtern’s four children. The family moved to Mount Horeb in 1973 where Lori graduated in 1980. Shortly after high school Lori met her lifelong sweetheart, John J. Haack, of Cross Plains. They were married on Sept. 4, 1982.
They were blessed with three wonderful children, and many who knew Lori would agree that being a mother was her true calling. Lori poured her heart and soul into nurturing her family, creating a warm and loving home that was the heart of their world. As her children grew up, Lori later found joy working at the local dental office and greeting visitors at the salon.
Lori had a zest for life, and her passions included attending sporting events, especially those of her children and grandsons. Whether she was cheering from the bleachers at their ball games or donning her Badger red on fall Saturdays, Lori's enthusiasm was contagious. She cherished taking weekend drives with John, often leading them to discover hidden gems at small-town wineries or breweries. Her favorite road trip, without a doubt, ended in the scenic beauty of Door County each summer. Above all, Lori reveled in making birthdays and holidays extra special for family and friends, with a deep affection for decorating, especially during Christmas and through the changing seasons. Lori had a remarkable gift for making any house feel like a loving home.
Lori is survived by the love of her life, John; and her adoring children, Jared (Carly), Justin (Alexis) and Jillian (Brian) Wolters; grandsons, Clayton, Miles, Owen, Gavin, Jack and Weston; mother, Jan VanEgtern; siblings, Lisa (Doug) Brinker, Lois (Keith) Sternat and Kent (Stacy) VanEgtern; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Ray (Peggy), Rosie (Earl) Rettenmund, Jim (Kathy), Larry (Betty), Charlie (Joan), Bill, Gerry (Shirley) and Dave (Pat); and many close aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Ken VanEgtern; father-in-law, Walter Haack; mother-in-law, Mary Haack; sister-in-law, Cindi Haack; and nephews, Kurt Haack and Rick Rettenmund.
Lori’s wishes were for us to celebrate her life by coming together to share stories and memories. Join us at AMERICAN LEGION HALL, 2217 American Legion Drive, Cross Plains, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023.
A heartfelt thank you to all of the excellent doctors, nurses, and staff at UW Carbone Cancer Center, with a special thank you to Dr. Sumer Wallace and her staff. The family would also like to thank the staff at Agrace HospiceCare for their care of Lori.
Some people shine so brightly that even after they have gone, their light remains. Lori will forever remain in our hearts, and her light will remain a guiding force in our lives forever.
