Scott Bradley Patchin

BLACK EARTH / PLATTEVILLE - Scott Bradley Patchin, age 71, of Black Earth, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 3, 2026.

Scott was born on December 26, 1954, in Platteville, Wis., the son of Albert Patchin and Janice (Scott) Patchin. From the start, he was a joiner and a doer - working his way up through Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Explorer Scouts, picking up plenty of badges and even more stories along the way.

By high school, Scott had already figured out he could do it all. He helped lead his football team to a state championship, then traded his cleats for a costume and took the stage in productions of "The Sound of Music," "Carnival," "Fiddler on the Roof," "Oliver!," "Our Town," and "The Glass Menagerie." He competed in forensics, sang with the Madrigal choir, and earned a National Choral Award. Music stayed with him for the rest of his life. He was known to break into song just about anywhere, whether anyone asked him to or not.

Scott graduated from UW-Platteville in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in psychology, proof that even a man who enjoyed performing also loved understanding what makes people tick.

In 1982, Scott headed to Texas, where life had a way of surprising him. It was there that he met someone and, not long after, came home with the two best keepsakes a person could ask for: Jerod and Brenna. Scott's proudest titles were always "Dad" and also, later, "BumP."

Scott would eventually find his way to Maxine Rosemeyer-Thalmann, and on July 6, 1991, in Platteville, the two were married. Proving that for Scott, the third time truly was the charm. Together they blended their families into one, and Scott loved Maxine's daughters, Kari and Kathryn.

Scott and Maxine went on to proudly own and operate the restaurant, David W. Heiney’s, for 20 years. After closing the restaurant in 2013, he returned to Reinhart Food Service as a Sales Rep., trading in the dining room for the open road.

Scott believed in showing up for his community, not just talking about it. He served on both the Platteville City Council and the Black Earth Village Board, bringing the same energy and warmth to public service that he brought to everything else. He also treasured gathering with neighbors over good food and conversation at local supper clubs. Above all, Scott cherished time with his family.

Scott is survived by his wife, Maxine; children, Dr. Jerod (Shawna) Patchin, Brenna (John) Sanchez, Kari (Darek) Faber and Kathryn Thalmann; grandchildren, Joshua, Eli and Zeke Patchin, Nico Sanchez, and Cree, Chay, Coen and Cora Faber; sisters, Nadine Patchin, Tracy Bristow and Lisa (David) Parker; and brother, Craig (Tammy) Patchin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Janice Patchin; brothers-in-law, Doug, Tom, Jim and Tony Rosemeyer; and parents-in-law, Max and Mary Rosemeyer.

A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON CAMACHO MOUNT HOREB FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 500 N. Eighth St., Mount Horeb, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service on Sunday.
