Obituary
WINDSOR - Duane A. Kleinfeldt, age 73, of Windsor, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on March 2, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Gilbert and Marjorie (née Walker) Kleinfeldt.
Duane graduated from LaFollette High School in 1967 and Madison Area Technical College with an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences for Land Surveying Technology in 1973. Duane proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Duane was united in marriage to Susan Berry on Aug. 27, 1977. He worked as a land surveyor for the City of Madison, retiring to care for his wife during her illness before her passing in 2008. Duane found love again and was united in marriage to Allisa (née Wenger) Maier-Kleinfeldt on June 24, 2011, in Madison, Wis. He later left retirement to work for the DeForest Area School District as a food services assistant and crossing guard.
Known as “Klink” among many of his skydiving friends, Duane was an enthusiastic member of Seven Hills Skydiving. In 1998 he jumped in the world record jump for largest skydiving formation. He was an active member of VFW Post 7591 and enjoyed serving his community and celebrating his country.
Duane loved traveling around the world with his family. He was his most relaxed on a warm beach with a cold drink in hand. In his free time Duane liked to read, swim in the pool, and watch sports. He was a Badgers season ticket holder for many years. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
His optimism, infectious laughter, and sense of humor will be missed by all those who knew him.
Duane is survived by wife Allisa; two stepdaughters, Alexandra Maier (Benjamin Wright) and Katrina Maier; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Susan (née Berry) Kleinfeldt; and parents, Marjorie and Gilbert.
A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023. Military honors will follow the gathering at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held at VFW POST 7591, 301 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday.
Memorials may be gifted in Duane’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project or the University of Wisconsin Cardiovascular Research Center Fund (112581065).
