Obituary
VERONA - Charles "Chuck" Cobb, age 87, of Verona, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. He was born on Sept. 22, 1935, in Jemison Ala., the middle son of Lonnie and Rubye Cobb. He met the love of his life while a student at Auburn. He married Mary Janice "Jan" Kennedy on Aug. 30, 1962, in Birmingham, Ala.
Chuck was a U.S. Army veteran and graduated from the Army Language School, Monterey, Calif., in Korean. He served most of his service as an interpreter/translator for the Army Security Agency in Korea. He was a member of American Legion Post 113 in Mount Horeb.
He received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Auburn University. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho (ΑΓΡ) fraternity. He was a registered professional engineer, PE, in New Jersey and Alabama. He worked for the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service in Alabama, South Carolina, New Jersey, North Carolina, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Most of his career was in flood prevention projects.
After retirement Chuck enjoyed traveling with Jan. Together, they visited 28 countries. When not traveling, he loved being around and doing things with his grandkids. Chuck coached all three of his sons and oldest grandson in baseball. He was also active in scouting when the sons were Cubs and Scouts.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Jan, of 60 years; one daughter, Carolee (John) Hampton, Stoughton; and three sons, Ken (Sally), Steve (Krista) and David; six grandchildren, Aaron Cobb, Sam Cobb, Kelsey Cobb, Jackson Hampton, Aidan Hampton and Caitlyn Cobb, and special “granddaughter,” Jenna Leonhardt; brother, Dwight (Eve), Hoover Ala.; four nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Rubye Cobb; and brother, Joe Cobb.
A memorial service will be held at MIDLAND UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 10235 County Road KP, Mazomanie, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023, with Pastor John Oliver presiding. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Verona, at a later date. Visitation will be held at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Military Rites and refreshments will follow the service.
