MADISON - Lorraine J. Johnson, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, at UW Health at the American Center. She was born on March 13, 1939, in Monroe, Wis., the daughter of Leland and F. Irene (Stamm) Jordan. She married Edward Johnson on Aug. 17, 1963, in Juda, Wis.
Lorraine grew up in Juda and attended a one room schoolhouse. She graduated from Juda High School and UW Stout with a bachelor's degree in home economics. Lorraine started her career as a home economics teacher in Janesville and would go on to work in Westby, Brillion, Palmyra, Madison, Oak Creek, Fond du Lac, Milwaukee, Delavan, Kenosha and McFarland. She always found work in the vicinity of the cities that her husband ministered as pastor.
Lorraine was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She loved entertaining, sewing, baking, travelling the world, including Egypt, Canada, New Zealand, and Italy, canoeing, hiking and gardening.
Lorraine is survived by her husband, Edward; two sons, Kenton Johnson, of Auckland, New Zealand and Erik (Colleen) Johnson, of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, Ethan Johnson and Quincy Johnson; three brothers, Emerson (Mary) Jordan, Vernon (Judy) Jordan, and Lorin (Peggy) Jordan; her sister, Luan (Mark) Janssen; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at ST. STEPHEN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, ELCA, 5700 Pheasant Hill Road, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, with the Rev. Elisa Brandt and Rev. Paul Johnsen presiding. Burial will be held at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Juda. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
