EVANSVILLE - Sharon Aileen Cybart, age 63, born April 28, 1959, passed away on July 24, 2022. She was born in Chicago and grew up in Normal, Ill.
Sharon graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., in 1981 with a double major in Spanish and Sociology. Her college highlights were a semester in Costa Rica and a year in Barcelona, Spain. After college, Sharon moved to San Francisco where she worked as a radio producer at KNBR-NBC radio.
In 1985, Sharon returned to her Midwest roots to work as a radio producer at Wisconsin Public Radio and then as News Director at WORT Community Radio. She also worked as a freelance reporter for National Public Radio, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and others.
Sharon worked at Olbrich Botanical Gardens for 23 years as Manager of Marketing and Public Relations, starting in 1991 with the grand opening of the Bolz Conservatory. She was proud to have helped Olbrich grow into the nationally recognized botanical garden that it is today. She authored the book Olbrich Botanical Gardens: Growing More Beautiful.
Sharon was passionate about travel, gardening, swimming, Tai Chi, and being outdoors. She was a longtime volunteer on the Board of Trustees for the Eager Free Public Library and for Evansville Community Theatre, both on stage and behind the scenes.
Sharon admired her husband Lyman for his lighthearted approach to life, sense of humor, and ability to make her laugh after 35 years of marriage. She loved raising her children, Hazel and Clark, and was endlessly proud of the adults they have become.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Lyman Fuson; daughter, Hazel (Scott) Cybart-Fuson Schuster; son, Clark (Sonja Passant) Cybart-Fuson; and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, 2022. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday, August 8, 2022.
