Caroyln Sharpe

MONONA - Carolyn Mason Sharpe, age 92, of Monona, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Heritage Senior Living Monona. She was born on Dec. 29, 1929, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Maxwell Edward Fead and Florence Carolyn (Johnston) Fead.

Carolyn graduated from Kingswood High School in 1947. She began her college education at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she belonged to Kappa Alpha Theta, an organization very close to her heart.

Carolyn was a lifelong Episcopalian and a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Madison. She was a homemaker.

In her younger years, Carolyn enjoyed sailing and racing sailboats. Her stepfather taught her the art of fly fishing and how to duck hunt. She took her first flight in his private plane, and perhaps this is where her passion for traveling began. One of her favorite trips was to Geneva, Switzerland. She enjoyed meeting people from all over the world. Carolyn liked watching sports on TV, especially the Brewers, Packers, Badgers, and golf. Her family brought her the greatest joy and she loved spending time with them.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Jeri Sharpe Lambert (Gary), Richard Mason Sharpe (Nanette), and Robert Alair Sharpe II (Valorie); seven grandchildren (who called her “Gammar”), Jamison (Gladys), Justin Sharpe, Kara (David), Nicole (Joel), Jeffrey, Stewart and Maximilian; five great-grandchildren, Isabel Leah (Leah suggested by Gammar), Lucas, Jeffrey, Caroline and Rylan Mason; cousin, Donald Allerton Johnston III; Fead half-siblings, Susan Maxwell, Beverly Janet (George) and Edward Maxwell (Diane); cousins; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Donald Allerton Johnston Sr., Florence

Widman, Edward Fead and Rachel Laughlin; parents, Maxwell Edward Fead and Florence Carolyn (Johnston) Sestok; beloved stepfather, George Mason; uncles, Donald Allerton Johnston Jr. and Doug Crary; sister, Barbara Fead Mason; stepmother, Janet Forbush; half-sister, Sally; Mason stepbrothers, George and Jack; and ex-husband, Richard “Dick” Sharpe.

A funeral service will be held at ST. LUKE’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 4011 Major Ave., Madison, at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022. Visitation will be held at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday.
