Barbie and I became best friends and roommates when I moved to Corpus Christi in 1973. She was funny, creative and a wonderful friend. We were similar in many ways and enjoyed a lot of the same activities. One Christmas when we exchanged our gifts, she had crocheted a shawl for me and I had crocheted an afghan for her. We looked at each other and burst out laughing. We never figured out how we kept it a secret from each other. When she married I was her maid of honor and she moved North. That was the last time I saw her. We continued to stay in touch through letters and eventually lost touch. Many years went by and technology advanced and one day not a few years ago, her daughter found me on facebook. We got in touch by phone and caught up on our lives. It was wonderful connecting again.
