Barbara Lynn Altenberger

Sun Prairie - Barbara Lynn Altenberger, age 67, of Sun Prairie, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Sunday, June 12, 2022. She was born on April 29, 1955, in Montpelier, Ohio, the daughter of Lawrence Watson and Naomi (Reed) Peters.

Barbara spent most of her childhood in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from Richard King High School in 1972. She loved all things Texas including Whataburger. Barbara was able to stay home with her children prior to working at Swiss Colony, then Famous Footwear for about 20 years. She retired from Bell Laboratories in 2019.

Barbara enjoyed playing piano, gardening, puzzles, crafts and shopping. She was very artistic and enjoyed making homemade decorations and giftwrapping beautiful presents. She was a very good cook, specializing in Tex Mex and delicious desserts, and she always loved sending food home with family members. She was an avid Packers and Dallas Cowboys fan.

Barbara is survived by her children, Jason (Misty) Altenberger, Renee Marie (Chris) Altenberger-Ebert and Rebecca (Matthew) Brown; five grandchildren, Evan Ebert, Bradley Altenberger-Kuper, Evelynn Ebert, Aleigha Altenberger and Nadia Brown; sisters, Beverly Allen and Brenda Brown; brother, Bradley Watson; special friend, Rudy; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Jack Peters; brother-in-law, Buddy Allen; and sister-in-law, Marie Watson.

A funeral service will be held at Gunderson East Funeral AND Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12:30 p.m. on Friday June 17, 2022. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
