OREGON - Shelby Jean Humberg Richardson, 65, of Oregon, Wis., passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022, after a long battle with Ovarian Cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends at home. Shelby was born on Sept. 28, 1956, to Blanche L. Bakken and Raymond L. Humberg.  She was a member of the Brooklyn Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed and married her soulmate, Richard M. Richardson, on Sept. 11, 1993. Shelby was proud of being a farmer’s daughter and of her Norwegian heritage.  She lost her mom at the early age of 8 and was then raised by her father and three older brothers on the family farm near Brooklyn, Wis.  

Shelby idolized her big brothers so when her brother, Jim, needed a kidney to save his life, Shelby was first in line to be tested.  Thankfully she was a match and because of her selfless act, Jim was able to enjoy many more years with his family and friends.  

Shelby graduated from Evansville High School in the class of 1974.  She was involved in all aspects of school life.  She attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where she was a member of the KAE Sorority.  

Shelby had many accomplishments over the years.  She took part in Wisconsin High School Rodeo for four years.  She was honored to be picked for Miss Congeniality by her fellow participants.  She was a member of the Brooklyn Busy Bees 4-H Club as well.  

Shelby was the President of the Oregon Women’s pool league and member of the Oregon, Brooklyn, and Albany Softball Leagues.  She owned and operated the Long Branch Saloon in Oregon, Wis., and worked for the Department of Agriculture until her retirement.  

She was the President of the USA Tug of War Association and also a member of the board of the World Tug of War Federation serving on many committees for it.  Shelby even earned three bronze medals participating in Tug of War at the World Level.  She traveled the world making lifelong friends along the way.  She was an avid Green Bay Packers Fan and hosted many Packers Parties aka the Church of Packers Day Saints.  

Shelby is survived by her husband, Richard Richardson; and beloved Boxer, Brooklyn; brother, Allen (Sue) Humberg; sisters-in-law, Colleen and Marlene; stepchildren, Mark (Nancy) Richardson, David (Barb) Jenkins, Beth (Troy) O’Connor and Nora (David) Rogers; and many grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life for Shelby will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, on Saturday, March 26, 2022.  A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m., with a luncheon to follow.  Family and friends who wish to view services via LIVE STREAM may visit Shelby’s obituary page at www.gundersonfh.com and click on the Live Webcast link at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022.
