Marilyn L. Hermanson

MADISON - Marilyn L. Hermanson, age 74, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at home. She was born on Aug. 28, 1947, in Monroe, Wis., the daughter of Clifford and Hazel (Kleppe) Anderson.

Marilyn graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1965 and from MATC in 1966 as a dental assistant.  She was united in marriage to Gary Hermanson on Aug. 20, 1966, in Blanchardville.

Marilyn’s life’s work and passion was caring for her children. She provided daycare services and lots of love for well over 100 kids in her home for over 30 years, as well as five years at a daycare center. Marilyn was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oregon, where she served on the stewardship, altar guild and funeral committees and as a junior league advisor.

She was an avid Packers, Badgers and Brewers fan and loved watching her four grandsons play soccer and baseball.  Marilyn loved her ceramic classes and the time spent with her friends at the center. Before her health failed, she was an avid walker and spent time walking the track in Oregon with her BFF, Nola.  

Marilyn loved traveling with her family on many trips to Florida and national parks and with her relatives, neighbors and friends on several cruises that included Alaska and Hawaii.  Since her retirement, she and Gary traveled to many parts of the U.S. and spent part of their winters in Florida.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Gary; children, Jody (Jamie) Cline and their son, Garrett of Stoughton; Amy Hermanson and her son, Anders Gausman of Stoughton; and Ross (Vila) and their sons, Louis and Chace of West Allis; sister, Karen (Bruce) Baker of Oregon; brother, Richard (Jeanne) Anderson of Madison.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Hazel; brothers, Harlan Anderson and Sheldon Anderson; and sister-in-law, Patricia Anderson.

A funeral service will be held at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 625 E. Netherwood St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022. Burial will take place at Oak Hall Cemetery in Fitchburg. A visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

Memorials may be gifted in Marilyn’s name to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Agrace HospiceCare, Fitchburg or UW Carbone Cancer Center.
