Yvonne Jackson

MONONA - Yvonne Jackson, age 89, of Monona, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on Nov. 3, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of William and Irene (Riechenbach) Steinberg. Yvonne graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School in 1951 and continued her education by attending the Milwaukee County School of Nursing. Being an only child, her 36 nursing classmates became her sisters and remained that way for over 65 years. Ever since she was a child, Yvonne wanted to be a nurse and she surpassed that goal and worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years, retiring in 1990. Yvonne married Myron “Mike” Jackson on June 26, 1954. Mike and Yvonne knew each other since the age of 9 and were married 67 years. They loved to travel together, Yvonne as the navigator and Mike the pilot and in their 32 years of retirement, they would often get up and go at a moment’s notice. Yvonne enjoyed spending time at the family cottage both with family and by herself. They had five sons and she loved seeing “her boys” and her grandkids. Yvonne enjoyed cheering them on at their sporting events and never missed a game. Her family meant the world to her, and she cherished every moment she was able to spend with them, whether it be at their family cottage or cooking them a family meal, where she would often set the table a week ahead of time. Yvonne especially loved the holidays and spending them with the ones she loved most. She was a great card partner and enjoyed puzzles and reading. She loved playing cards especially with their couples’ potluck group and her bridge group. She was an ultra-organized, good-natured, good-hearted woman, who was never late and rarely complained. She was an exceptional listener and an encourager. Yvonne is survived by her husband, Mike; and five sons, David (Debbie) Jackson, Steve (Heidi) Jackson, Tom (Lisa) Jackson, Daniel (Holly) Jackson and Paul (Lisa) Jackson; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022. A funeral service will be held at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Road, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022.
