Obituary
OREGON - Robert F. “Bob” Deegan, age 89, of Oregon, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on March 24, 1932, in Brooklyn, Wis., the son of William and Madeline (Kelly) Deegan.
Bob was one of ten children in the Deegan household. He was a graduate of Brooklyn High School and served in the U.S. Marines, where he worked as an equipment operator at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. Robert was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Liz" (Feggestad) Deegan on April 18, 1953, in Jacksonville, N.C.
In his younger years, Bob farmed in Brooklyn while working at Bancroft Dairy. Later he and his brother, John, purchased their own company, Madison Delivery Service, which made deliveries for major retailers. After Madison Delivery, Bob worked for FS Propane Services and finally managed Lakeland Sports Center before his retirement in 1992. During his retirement he enjoyed driving cars to auction for the Evansville Auto Auction. Bob always liked to keep busy with projects he enjoyed. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Robert was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oregon and American Legion Post No. 160. He loved Friday night fish fries at the VFW. Bob and Liz enjoyed listening to live country music and had fond memories of traveling to Washington, DC, Montreal and California. They enjoyed time at their cabin in Rhinelander, being on the water, and boating on the lake whenever they had a chance. Bob’s family was most important him. He loved being at all family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren.
Robert is survived by four sons, David Allen (Lori) Deegan, Jon Deegan, Daniel Deegan and Jeffrey (Katie) Deegan; daughter, Lori (Richard) Culles; three granddaughters, Jessica Deegan, Kelly (Jake) Swank, Molly Deegan; two grandsons, Dereck Deegan and Eric Deegan (Caitlin Uhlmann); three great- granddaughters, Kiara Hairston-Deegan, Lillyan Deegan and Violet Deegan-Raab; two sisters, Joyce Vale and Micki Purnell; and two brothers, John Deegan and Dick Deegan. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Liz; four brothers, Bill, Gene, Don and Joe Deegan; and sister, Mary Jane Faye.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
