Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Bonnevier “Bonnie” Bakken, age 86, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Ingleside Nursing Home where she had been a resident. She was born on May 18, 1934, to Albert and Eva (Field) Bakken. Bonnie grew up on a farm in Vermont Township. She graduated from Black Earth High School in 1952. Her dream was to see her name in lights. Bonnie performed as a singer, modeled for various magazines, and also performed in burlesque. Bonnie used different stage names, including Bonnie Logan and Monique Murray. Bonnie has lived many places, including California, Hawaii, Florida and Japan. She eventually moved back to Wisconsin. In her later years, she was inducted into the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas and enjoyed traveling there every year. Bonnie also had a great love for animals. She was a member of Two Steeples Lutheran Church in Blue Mounds. Survivors include her children, Michael (Carolyn) Gormican of Rio and Cynthia Kaczmark of Mount Horeb; grandchildren, Benjamin Gormican and Joshua Jackson; brothers, Daniel Bakken, Eric (Karen) Bakken and Lowell (Karen) Bakken; and first husband, Michael Gormican. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Timothy Gormican; brothers, Phillip Bakken and Richard Bakken; and second husband, Frank Kaczmark. A Memorial Service will be held at WEST BLUE MOUNDS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2962 Church St., Blue Mounds, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16, 2021, with Jim Ranney presiding. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. Met Bonnie when she lived in Blue Mounds. We became friends when she helped find a missing cat. Helped her when she had to moved to a Mt Horeb apartment. Gave her some rides to Doctor appointment in Cross Plains and Hair appointment in Barneveld. Loved her stories and sense of humor. She was a sensitive soul and will be greatly missed. Bonnie and I were friends. It was always a pleasure when I encountered her at various places around Mount Horeb - the Senior Center, the grocery store or Fink's Cafe. She shared so many of her life experiences with me, and it made me wish I could have known her when she was young and lively. She always had a smile for me, even if she had problems. Bonnie was a beautiful person and I will miss her. She is now singing in the heavenly choir. My condolences to her friends and family.

I never got to meet you, but you were a trailblazer for the women’s movement. It took courage to embrace your beauty and go after what you wanted like you did. You didn’t allow people to shame you into being someone that you didn’t want to be, you were brave enough to follow your heart. It doesn’t matter what people say. Life is so short, we need to be able to live it on our own terms. I wish I would have gotten the chance to meet you and listen to your legendary showgirl stories. I hope you have found peace, and just want you to know that you are a legend, and so many women are grateful and inspired by you today. Rest easy🕊️
