Obituary

WINDSOR - John M. Bauer, age 52, of Windsor, passed away on Friday, Sept. 18, 2020, at SSM Health-St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on Oct. 24, 1967, in Little Rock, Ark., the son of Linus and Veronica (Bednar) Bauer, Sr. John is survived by his fiancé, Katie Hamre; former wife, Sally Vogl-Bauer; and brother, Linus Bauer, Jr. John graduated from Catholic High School for Boys in Little Rock. After graduating, he received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Dallas and went on to successfully complete his master's degree from the University of Kentucky. Some of John’s passions were technology and problem solving and he used those talents while employed at WPS Health Solutions as the Citrix Manager. He had also been a certified Microsoft trainer and Network Operations expert. He was well respected and admired for his ability to work with and mentor others. John was exceptionally handy and mechanically inclined. He excelled in wood working, home remodeling, and fixing just about anything that was broken. In his free time John loved riding his Indian motorcycle, playing pool, smoking pork shoulders and ribs for family and friends, making hot sauce and enjoying a good card game. He was always there to help his family and friends when they needed him. He will be dearly missed. A private memorial service will be held. A public drive thru visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charles T. Uhl Memorial Rome Endowed Scholarship Fund at the University of Dallas, 1845 E. John, you will be truly missed. I am very fortunate to have known you and worked with you over 3 years at WPS. My heart and thoughts go out to John's family and friends. It was a pleasure to meet you and I am looking forward to seeing you in the next life.

John and Sally lived around the corner from us, and were like an uncle and aunt to our son, Ian. They always graciously included Ian, from very young on, to their get-togethers to the point when Ian could legally drink John's sometimes "poisonous" cocktails. John was very skilled at solving problems and repairing, installing, etc. many things in our home,--including "untangling" our computer from the work of a young boy and our newly-installed internet. My husband, John, had deep respect for John Bauer as a kind human and his sharp mind. "John is so d@#$ smart, but he doesn't flaunt his intellect." he would often comment. Both Johns died in the same room from the same causes about a year apart. I'm sure they are sharing their dry sense of humor in heaven right now.

My deepest condolences to Katie and to all of John's family and friends. John's death is an unexpected and unwelcome shock. I've known John only for a short time, and did not become well acquainted until this year. Now, I wish I'd had the opportunity to know him better. We at the office will certainly miss his energy and his spirit as well as his knowledge, and, given the opportunity, I know I would have bent his ear on a woodworking project or two. In John I always felt I could count on an honest opinion, and if needed, a helping hand. He will be greatly missed.

My deepest condolences. John was a great person, I enjoyed working with him and I know he touched the lives of many here at WPS. I did not know him outside of work but I always welcomed a laugh with him on our calls. Katie, there are no words. He will be missed.
