TOWN OF PERRY - Robert George “Bob” Ferwerda, 70, of Town of Perry, Wis., died peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at UW Hospital, Madison, after a brief illness.
Bob was born on December 29, 1954, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Gerald J. Ford (nee Ferwerda) and Barbara (nee Lenken) Ferwerda. He moved with his family to Madison in 1968; Dane County was home for the rest of his life. After graduating from Edgewood High School in 1973, Bob went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in Applied Math, Engineering and Physics. He served in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman from 1981-1983 at Strategic Air Command in Omaha. Bob returned to Madison to finish his bachelor’s degree, graduating in 1986. He worked a variety of jobs in his career, including management at McDonald’s, a technician at Professional Service Management, and a programmer at PerSoft and Esker.
Bob had a lifelong interest in astronomy, did a significant amount of work on building his own home outside of Mount Horeb, was a member of the American Legion, and was very proud of his service in the USAF.
Bob was preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by two brothers, Dave (Judy) Ferwerda and Jim (Beth) Ferwerda; nieces, Jessica (Stirling) Martin, Amanda (Demi) Ferwerda and Jennifer Ferwerda; nephew, Michael (Molly) Ferwerda; nine grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and countless friends from over the years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. IGNATIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 109 S. Sixth St., Mount Horeb, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. A visitation will be held at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
