EVANSVILLE-Barry Tarkenton, age 49, passed away of a heart attack on Monday, May 14, 2018. He was born on Oct. 2, 1968, in Madison, the son of Warren and Sharon (Pledger) Tarkenton. Barry was a 1987 graduate of Oregon High School. He then became part of Tarkenton Brothers Heating and Air Conditioning. On Aug. 14, 1999, he married Kristi Schultz (who he lovingly called “Schultz”). Barry loved the outdoors, enjoying both hunting and fishing, going up north to the cabin, and planting trees on his land. He was a member of the Peoples United Methodist Church and the Oregon Sportsman Club where he enjoyed trap shooting. Barry had a variety of other interests including cooking, collecting and restoring cars, but most loved spending time with his family and his dog “Jett”. In addition to his wife Kristi, survivors include his sons, Austin (Jordyn Mathison) and Gehrick; his mother Sharon; brothers, Brad (Kathie), Brian and Brett (Amy); his mothers-in-law, Kelly (Rajan) Vembu and Rose Schultz; sisters-in-laws, Laura (Brad) Acker, Samantha (Trevor) Vembu-Moerkerke and Anna (Samuel) Vembu Julian; nephews, Alex (Devan Bertz) Tarkenton and Paul Tarkenton; and special cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Warren; his brother, Bruce; and his father- in- law, Mark Schultz. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018. Services will begin at 2 p.m., with burial to follow at the Town of Dunn Burying Ground. Our hearts are filled with sadness of the loss of such a great friend , The amazing get together s Barry and Christy would have were so memorable and special as we all grew up had kids got busy we all would still remain close no matter how much time had gone by. Tarkenton Family, My deepest sympathies .I am speechless.. Barry was just a really good guy. I can hear his laugh as I am writing this. I will miss seeing him around and Barry always taking the time to talk whenever we ran into each other. To his wife and Boys, I hope you ALWAYS reflect on the fact he was a friend to many and a damn good hard working man.... I will really miss when Barry and I would exchange yelling '' HEY OLD MAN '' to each other every time are paths crossed. RIP my friend. Sincerely. Jim Snow.

Kristi, I was so very sorry to read of Barry's sudden death! Although I never had the privilege of meeting him, I have no doubt that he was an all around great guy who helped to make a difference in many peoples' lives. Barry was my first crush many years ago.
We held hands and he brought me to his home for lunch and to show me his tree house . Barry had lots of curly hair back then,
The home was a mustard yellow with lines
Of thin red and dark brown
Was soo beautiful and big
Iv always thought of him , mentioning how I was Barry’s girl when we were 10 or so
and his Uncle Fran Tarkenton played for the Vikings
