MADISON-Richard Anton “Richie” “Jake” Hoffmann, age 59, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017. He was born on July 3, 1958, in San Diego, Calif., the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Meier) Hoffmann. Richard attended Madison La Follette High School. He married Lajean (Zitlow) on April 23, 1994. He worked as a Finishing Drywaller for over 30 years. Richard enjoyed sports, especially the Brewers and Packers. He was a very sociable guy who enjoyed traveling, NASCAR, grilling out, cooking and tinkering with small engines. He adored his family, especially his grandchildren. Richard is survived by his wife, Lajean; his parents; son, Shawn (Stephanie) Hoffmann; step-daughter, Tonja (Geoff) Gallagher; step-son, Justin (Danielle) Zitlow; grandchildren, Abigail Spilde, and Grayle and Gabriel Gallagher; “furball” buddies, Bruno the dog and his cats, Malory and Baby; brother, Robert (Treasure) Hoffmann; sisters, Cheryl (Fred) Kiefer and Toni (Dale) Fredenberg; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017. When we all set off for Ireland and Scotland, we were on our way to an adventure…we were heading to ‘over the ocean’. We traveled far and saw many amazing things. We also saw some very curious and unexpected things. For Jake, these weren’t good or bad, right or wrong just ‘different’. Wherever we went Jake would like to head out to a local pub to meet the locals and have a bit of the local brew. There was no language barrier or problems in communicating which prevented Jake from making a new friend or two wherever he went. Just a really good guy living and loving life.
I will take these memories with me should I go to ‘over the ocean’ or stay right here. I will remember that ‘different’ is okay and that life it meant to be lived. And I will miss him.
