Eugene F. Goldade

MADISON–Eugene F. “Gene” Goldade, age 86, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, just three months and two days after his “Honey”, Magdalena, died.  Gene was born on Dec. 3, 1930, in Aberdeen, S.D., the son of Anton and Rita Goldade.  He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School.  Gene was united in marriage to the love of his life, Magdalena Lacher on May 21, 1953, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen.  He worked for Bull Dairy until 1956, when Gene and Lena and daughter Kathy, moved to Madison for better job opportunities.  He began working part-time at Robert J. Nickles Electric, Inc., but quickly earned his keep and began full-time employment as shop foreman that continued for 30 years.  Later, Gene worked for Dean Clinic until his retirement in 2000 as head of housekeeping. When asked his title or job duties, he stated that he was the “head mopologist”.   Gene loved spending time with his family, especially Sunday dinners. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading, history, (specifically subjects related to World War II) and hunting, especially water fowl and pheasants.  Gene took great joy in teaching his children, grandchildren and anyone who had the desire to learn how to hunt and fish.  An avid sports fan, Gene would cheer on the Brewers, Badgers and Packers and enjoyed playing slow pitch softball in his youth.  While living at Oak Park, he was often found playing cards, bingo or simply working on a craft.  Lena and Gene were active members of St. Bernard Catholic Church for over 40 years.  He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, an officer at the Madison Moose Lodge and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. Gene is survived by his children, Katherine Goldade, Jo Ann (John) Terasa, Gene (Ann) Goldade, Bruce (Cathy Lee) Goldade, Sharon Goldade and Bryan (Gena) Goldade; grandchildren, Matthew (Jennifer) Terasa, Amanda (Craig) Johnson, Melissa Goldade, Jennifer Goldade, Samantha Goldade and Justin (Candice) Strack; great-grandchildren, MaKenzie and Brielle Johnson, Anthony DeLucia and Michael Terasa, and Jaiden and Brinley Strack; siblings, Sebastian, Eleanor and Mary Ann; and many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Magdalena; parents; brothers, Stephen, Jacob, Anton, Donald, Robert, Richard, James and Anthony; sisters, Helen, Florence and Bernice; niece, Ann Bursaw; goddaughter, Linda Long; and nephews, Scott Goldade and Alan Miller.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E.
