Obituary
MADISON-Monica Kuenzie, age 84, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Aug. 18, 1932, in Nederland, Texas, the daughter of Patrick and Beula (Nelson) Tynan. She was a Sister and teacher with the Order of St. Francis of Assissi for 18 years in Louisiana. After leaving the order she furthered her studies at Alverno College, then taught in Milwaukee Public Schools for 18 years. Monica married Wilson Kuenzie on June 28, 1969. She is survived by four children, Kelly (Jason Schnebly) Kuenzie, Lucy Beenen, Fredricka Caldwell and Thomas John (Patricia) Kuenzie; two sisters, Frances Tynan and Margaret (Walter "Buddy") Davis; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter, Carol Kuenzie; and husband, Wilson Kuenzie. Monica was an enthusiastic socialite with great emotional intelligence. She took delight in fields of sunflowers, art, music, and literature. She hosted musical soirées at their home. Her warm and generous spirit welcomed tons of friends and family. Monica and Wilson enjoyed many boat rides and bonfires at their home on Wilke Lake. After moving to Madison in 2005 she found support at St. Peter's Catholic Church. A burial service will be held at ST. ADALBERT CATHOLIC CEMETERY, 3801 S. 6th St., Milwaukee, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017, followed by a celebration of life at BENVENUTO’S, 1849 Northport Dr., Madison, at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children’s Dyslexia Center-Madison at CDC-Madison.org, NPR (National Public Radio), or the Alzheimer’s Association. I have so many good memories of Monica. When I became her daughter's roommate, she welcomed me into her home with such kindness and enthusiasm that I felt I had a family space in Wisconsin -- far from my own family in Oregon. Kelly and I spent many fun weekends with Monica and Wilson at the lake cottage, eating delicious home-cooked food and drinking Wilson's wine. Monica and Kelly came to a celebration dinner when I earned my master's degree, and I will never forget her delight when I brought my 2-year old daughter to visit Monica. She was such a lovely person, and my heart goes out to Kelly and her family in this sad time.
