Evelyn H Thompson

MADISON-Evelyn H. Thompson, age 92, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, with her family by her side. She was born on Oct. 13, 1924, in Merrimac, the daughter of Charles and Lucille (Premo) Herr. Evelyn graduated from Prairie du Sac High School. She attended Milwaukee Teachers College, then transferred to Madison Business College. After college she began working at MG&E. It was Christmas of 1945, when Evelyn met her future husband, David L. Thompson and they were united in marriage on July 28, 1946. David's work took the newlywed's all over the Midwest. They chose Madison to raise their family and were blessed with two daughters, Janet and Joan. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was an active circle member, she sang in the choir, worked at the rummage sales, and was a Deacon of the church. Evelyn loved spending time in her beautiful gardens, she was a charter member of the Iris Society and an avid member of the Daylily Society. She loved to play bridge, and volunteered numerous hours at the UW hospital in the gift shop. Evelyn is survived by daughters, Janet (Chris) Homburg and their daughter, Hayley (Matt) Brooks; and Joan (Fred Kunz) Lange and her children, Bernie T. Lange and Stephen Lange. She is further survived by her sister, Marjorie Farris; and sister-in-law, Darlene Barnes. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, David. A Memorial Service will be held at WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 4100 Nakoma Rd., Madison, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, followed by a reception. Visitation will be held at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
