MADISON-Herbert G. Stanford, age 81, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017. Herbert is survived by his wife, Eleanor; children, Debra (David) Lueders, Daniel (Sandy) Stanford and Lisa (Rick) Snyder; grandchildren, Shawn Lueders, Loralyn (William) Buelow, Sarah Vale, Amy (Josh) Crooks, Anthony (Erika) Stanford, Alex Stanford, Garrett and Gannon Piernot and Madison and Derek Snyder; great-grandchildren, Liera Buelow, Gavin Vale, Tyler and Nathan Crooks; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Cole and her children, Dylan and Taylor Cole; sisters, Dorothy VanderSande and Norma Morehouse; his brother, Bill Stanford; and nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael D. Stanford; his parents and several siblings. A celebration of life gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, on Sunday. March 12, 2017, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Family Children's Hospital. A full obituary appeared in the Jan. 8, 2017, edition. I was the Local #394 Steamfitter secretary back in 1994 when I first met this man. What a joy to have known his sense of humor and what a great guy he was. He had two wonderful sons , Mike and Danny that followed in his footsteps as a Steamfitter. I was pleased for known these two great boys too. Prayers for all of you at this time and have faith that you will get through this. One day at a time. Dolly and Danny, and the rest of the Family, may it give you peace knowing that Mike and your Dad are together and will be waiting for you when your time comes.

I will miss Herb very much. He will continue to live on through the hearts and memories of all those who knew him. My heart goes out to all the Stanford family. It was a honor and a priveledge to work alongside Herb for many years. Everyday he taught someone something new. We laughed and broke the rules on a daily basis and I will continue to tell stories of him for the rest of my life.

I personally enjoyed bowling with Herb and Dan in the St James League , where it was always a good time. Also the connection of being Steamfitter brothers has been an honor. Our deepest condolences to the entire family and especially to Dolly and Dan. From one longtime steamfitter family to another, we hope the the fond memories will sustain you and know that our prayers will be with you.
