Obituary

MADISON-Marilyn A Baumgarten, age 79, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 at Oak Park Place. She was born on Feb. 28, 1937, the daughter of Ernest and Doris (Erickson) Strand in Madison, WI.   After graduating from Madison East High School in 1955, Marilyn attended Trinity College. On Oct. 26, 1963, she married Paul Baumgarten in Madison. He preceded her in death in 1986. Marilyn had been employed with the University of Wisconsin for 28 years before her retirement. She was a member of Bethany Evangelical Free Church and was their church organist for over 63 years. Marilyn also belonged to numerous singing groups within the church and was recently honored for her dedication to the church and for her love of music. Marilyn enjoyed traveling worldwide and also throughout the United States, but she loved most spending time with her family. She is survived by her son, David (Joyce) Baumgarten; her daughter, Robin (Stephen) Dejewski; three granddaughters, Ashley Matthias, Danielle (Chris) Bartow, Hailey Kleppe; a grandson, Isaac Baumgarten; her brother, Robert (Karen) Strand; her sister, Nancy (Bruce) Moltumyr; her sister-in-law, Katherine Strand; and other relatives and many friends In addition to her husband Paul, Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Fred Funeral services will be held at Bethany Evangelical Free Church, 301 Riverside Dr., Madison, at 11:00 am on Friday Dec. 9, 2016, with Rev. David Carlson presiding. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., on Thursday, Dec. 8 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and also on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Evangelical Free Church.  The family would like to extend a special thank you for their loving care to the staffs of Heritage Monona Assisted Living, Oak Park Skilled Nursing & Memory Care and also Heartland Hospice.

Our family was neighbors to Paul, Marilyn, Robin and David back in 1967 for a few years and became good friends. Marilyn was a spiritual inspiration to everyone, so kind and loving, and she was a fun person to be around! I remember our children attending Marilyn's "Backyard Bible School" for many summers! Marilyn will be missed by her family and many, many friends and will be remembered for the truly faithful servant she was. God's peace and comfort to Marilyn's family. Marv and DeDe Waldmann

I first met Marilyn and her children, David & Robin, back in 1996 shortly after I married her late husband's brother, Daniel Baumgarten. So technically she was my sister-in-law but she seemed more like a sister. She and David and Robin wholeheartedly welcomed me into the Baumgarten family which I appreciated immensely. Through the years we have visited each other on several occasions and chatted on the phone, sharing about our grandchildren and our lives, and praying for each other. She was always so kind and cheerful - such a blessing in my life. I will miss her. Robin & David, I will continue praying for you and your families. I know you will miss her. I know she is happy to be with your Dad again. I'm sure she will tell him about the southern girl that his brother Daniel married after his wife Helen died. Your Uncle Dan was saddened to hear of your mom's passing and we would have come to her funerals except your Uncle Dan is now suffering from the same disease your mom had. Keep him in your prayers. He had great respect for your mom and for their shared love of playing the organ.
