MADISON-Eleanor "Ellie" (nee Mainey) Germanson, age 84 of Madison, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. Ellie was born on Dec. 8, 1931, in Morris, Ill. to L.B. and Beatrice (nee Ely) Mainey. She married Gerald Day "Jerry" Germanson on Aug. 1, 1953. Ellie graduated from University of Illinois in 1953 with a degree in Home Economics Education; and worked at Wisconsin Electric Power Company in Milwaukee briefly. She and Jerry lived in West Allis; Madison; Moorhead, Minn.; Sioux City, Iowa; and back to Madison in 1964. She devoted her life to raising their six children, and being involved in their schooling and activities. A longtime member of the Attic Angel Association, she also volunteered at University Hospital Clinic. Ellie is survived by her six children, Linda (Ted) Seefeldt, Don (Twila), Susan (Damianis), Thomas, Jane (Mark) McCarty, and Jack (Nancy); 12 grandchildren, Dean (Becky), Mark (Jenn), and Jason (Megan) Seefeldt; Sean, Ryan, Heather and Kyle McCarty; and Ana Maria, Gabrielle, Kenzie, Noah, and Amelie Germanson; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack (Marilyn) Mainey of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jerry; and her parents. A Celebration of Ellie's life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 12 Noon on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016 with the celebration of her life continuing after the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Sunday. Private family interment of both Ellie and Jerry will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Our deepest sympathy go to Ellie's entire family. Growing up along Waunona Way was a fantastic time. I will always treasure the toboggan run that was set up for us to play on at their house, the hockey rink we would shovel on the frozen lake, and the ice boats we would go across the lake on. My how things in that area have changed. I will treasure those memories.

Our sincerest sympathies and condolences go to Ellie's entire family. We are so very saddened by Ellie's passing; she will be sorely missed. We have many wonderful and fond memories of Ellie; she was such a welcoming and fun-loving person, always ready to give you a hug or a helping-hand. I fondly remember the first time we met; she was so very gracious and made us feel like "old friends." We talked till long after midnight. We were blessed to know her. I'm Elsbeth Germanson's sister
I have such fond memories of your mother....going back many years when on a few occasions, I'd come to Madison and babysit Linda and Donald so Elsbeth and Tom could have a night out with your Mom and Dad. I have more recent memories of enjoying your Mom's shortbread cookies....she was an amazing baker. I spoke with her briefly at your Dad's funeral...and was reminded again what a beautiful, gracious lady she was. I was blessed to have known her. My sincere sympathy to you and your families.

Oh, my, the video was priceless....I new Ellie and Jerry through my sister Elsbeth and husband Tom Germanson. I remember her amazing smile and delicious shortbread cookies. Always I will think of her as a very talented and gracious lady. She will be missed, but never forgotten. Sympathy and blessing to her family and friends.
