Obituary

Somerset/Deerfield – Kaitlin R. Jacobsen, age 30, passed away after a courageous battle against cancer on Thursday, October 13, 2016. She was born on April 3, 1986, in Stillwater, MN, the daughter of Dale and Rita (Davis) Johnson. Kaitlin graduated from Somerset High School with the class of 2004, then attended Hamline University and graduated from UW-Stout with a degree in accounting and finance. Her career began in Steamboat Springs, CO. She instantly fell in love with the mountains and made lasting friendships with co-workers and neighbors. On this adventurous path, Kaitlin met Nate Jacobsen and they were married on July 26, 2014. They made the Madison area their home and Kaitlin began working as an accountant and financial analyst. Kaitlin had a creative side and enjoyed scrapbooking, gardening, cooking and baking. Kaitlin loved her cats Jinx and Cleo and fostered kittens when she was no longer able to work. Her father taught her how to fish, a passion they will always share. Kaitlin enjoyed cheering on the Packers and was a true Badger fan. Although Kaitlin's time with us was all too short, we will always remember her laughter, the comfort she brought to all of us and simply being with her. She will be missed by her husband, Nate; parents, Dale and Rita Johnson; sister, Brianna Johnson; paternal grandfather, Glenn W. Johnson; parents-in-law, Curtis and Lisa Jacobsen; sister-in-law, Courtney Jacobsen and brother-in-law, Nick Jacobsen and many loving family and friends and her family in blue. She was preceded in death by her, maternal grandmother Lorraine Davis and her paternal grandmother Carol Johnson. A Celebration of Kaitlin's life will be held at DOOR CREEK CHURCH, 6602 Dominion Drive, Madison (corner of Sprecher Rd. and Dominion Dr.) on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 12:00-Noon, with Rev. Bob Goodsell presiding. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A special thank you to all our friends and family for all your support and kindness. Gunderson East Funeral & Cremation Care 5203 Monona Dr.

my name is Cheryl. I never met Kaitlin but she was friends with my daughter Nicole Johansen via the Chrons foundation. (and yet I cry) When I was near death in Feb of this year, Kaitlin was so comforting and supportive to my daughter. She even told Nicole she would come to her (in Milwaukee) in a minute if Nicole needed her. Through her own fights and pain she was willing to come comfort a friend. This is a true testimony as to just what a kind and caring woman she was. I am sorry I was not blessed to have met her but so very grateful she touched my daughter's life. My sincere sympathy to all her family and friends. Your loss is God's gain. Please know that her greatness not only touched you and your family but that she has touched others many miles away. God bless and comfort you.

Kaitlin was a truly kind and caring person. We shared a love of music and I will always think of her when I listen to Brett Dennen. My heart goes out to everyone who loved her, especially Nate, her parents and her sister. Know that she will live on through the various ways she touched people and how they will remember her.

I'm so sorry to hear of Kaitlin's passing. Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure to meet her living in NY. However, reading these sentiments and sharing stories with bri made me feel as though I did. She was a wonderful young lady. May you find the love and strength to get you through this most difficult time. Keep all the memories close to you always.. My sympathy to you all. Sending my Love to you Bri and your family.

There are no words to describe my sadness at Kaitlin's passing. My guess is that anyone who knew her, even just acquaintances, are mourning the loss of this special soul. I met Kaitlin through social media and our little group did a number of social things together. Because I'm the oldest in the group (by a lot!) most of the ladies had more in common with each other than with me so I ended up drifting away from the group over time. What I can say is this, Kaitlin's spirit was unmatched. She was a fighter and an optimist. She never felt sorry for herself - at least not that I ever saw - and her attitude was my model for dealing with my own cancer. Here are my memories: we shared a love of nerdy books; she was an amazing cook; she introduced us to coloring in coloring books before it was cool; her papercrafting was unparalleled; I still tell people about how she used those cat nail tips on her cat and changed the colors depending on whether it was Badger or Packer season! Rest In Peace beautiful girl. You gave it your all and made the most of your time on this earth. xoxo

I grew up with Kaitlin and knew her through her sister Bri. She was always quick witted and determined, two things I really admire in a person. My husband had the honor of playing music for her and Nate's wedding and that was the last time I saw Kaitlin in person. She was a beautiful bride a a wonderful person, inside and out. She will be dearly missed. My memories will always be of her dancing with Nate with the biggest smile on her face in a beautiful barn filled with friends and family. Love to the Jacobsen and Johnson families.
