Lawrence J. Callahan

OREGON - Lawrence J. “Larry” Callahan, age 64, of Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, at UW Hospital and Clinics. He was born on Dec. 22, 1959, in Madison, the son of John and Margaret (Parkinson) Callahan.

Larry graduated from Oregon High School in 1979. He worked for Attainment Company for 37 years. He was a lifelong member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church.

Larry loved walking around to all the Oregon area businesses on Fridays. He was an avid reader and enjoyed visits to bookstores and libraries. While on vacations, he would seek out the most famous library in that area to visit. Larry also loved receiving newspapers from around the world that his family would send to him. He loved watching women's gymnastics and was a big movie and TV buff. He knew all the actors. He will be fondly remembered for giving special names to everyone.

Larry is survived by his three sisters, Patti (Craig) Schwenn, Judy Thompson and Kathy Callahan; brother, Bill (Diana) Callahan; sisters-in-law, Sue Callahan and Sandie Callahan; special aunt, Sr. Mary Faith Parkinson; and many nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret; brothers, Jack and Dee Callahan; brother-in-law, Bill Thompson; and nephews, Monte Callahan and Chad Schwenn.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, with Father Thomas Kelley presiding. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Larry's name to the March of Dimes or Feed the Children.

Larry’s family wishes to thank the staff at the UW Hospital for all of the wonderful care given to Larry. They would also like to thank WORC and his co-workers at Attainment.
