Obituary
MADISON- James Roger “Jim” Williams, age 98, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Oak Park Place. He was born on March 16, 1926, in Marshfield, Wis., the son of Alwin and Edith (Young) Williams.
Jim graduated from Marshfield High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Doris (Johnson) Williams on May 12, 1951, at St. Paul’s Liberty Lutheran Church in Deerfield.
Jim worked as a custodian for the Madison School District for 39 years, retiring in 1991; after retiring, he volunteered his services to Madison Schools and was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Jim loved swimming, bicycling, dancing, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. He made friends wherever he went.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Diane Monroe and Patricia (Jim) Sumner; grandsons, James (Ann) Sumner IV, Aaron (Beth) Johnson and Andrew Johnson; great-grandchildren, Eden, James, Jack, Noah and Aveah; brother, John (Jo) Williams; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; brothers, Bob, Duane, Stanley, and Bill Williams; granddaughter, Melissa Sumner; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, with the Rev. Piet Van Kampen presiding. Burial will take place at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
Memorials may be gifted in Jim’s name to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 734 Holy Cross Way, Madison, WI 53704.
