Obituary

MADISON-Allan E. “Al” Skinner III, age 73, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare.  He was born on Aug. 19, 1943, in Evanston, Ill., the son of Allan Jr. and Ida Mae (Johnson) Skinner.  Al graduated from Stoughton High School.  He attended Wisconsin School of Electronics and University of Wisconsin.  He was an electrical and broadcast engineer for Midwestern Broadcast, Airforce MARS station, UW Badgers Broadcast and other various radio stations across the Midwest.  Al was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying the Badgers, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs and golf. Al is survived by his beloved family, Darleen Laufenberg, Sharon (Dave) Adams and Cindy Cooley; nieces and nephews; and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and partner of 33 years, Mark Cooley.  Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 12 noon, on Monday, July 24, 2017, with the Rev. Jerry Amstutz presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dane County Humane Society.  Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Al was my first engineer for Wisconsin Badgers football and basketball broadcasts. I will remember him for being a true professional. Always calm, our crew knew Al would take care of any technical issues that might surface during a live broadcast. Al was as good as it gets in our business. He enjoyed his work, and we enjoyed having him with us. A very good man who will be missed. Rest In Peace Al.

Al was my neighbor along with his partner Mark. It was a real pleasure having Al and Mark as neighbors especially at Halloween when they transformed their front yard into a space ship complete with aliens and lights. A witch, tombstones and various pumpkins accompanied the space craft. Kids would come from all over to get treats. My daughter would trick and treat at their home and always get a special treat like a book and a large candy bar. Al was always available to answer my home improvement questions. He was a great neighbor and will be missed greatly. You couldn't have asked for better neighbors than Al and Mark. I will always think of their house as theirs and their cars as Woof 1 and Woof 2. Thanks for being my neighbor and friend.

Mike Jenson / Oakridge, Oregon: I just learned of Als passing. We were high school friends and class mates at the Wisconsin School of Electronics. Al was a good friend and I'm sorry I didn't reconnect with him years ago. Rest in peace Al. Your friend, Mike aka Windy.
