MADISON - Cecilia M. Schiek, age 69, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019, in Madison. She was born in Oak Park, lll., and is survived by her three children, Julie (Robert) Petri of Milwaukee, Beth (Mark) Doome of Waukesha, and Paul (Sarah) Schiek of Oakland, Calif. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Miya and Ayla Petri; Emily, Grace, and Johnathan Doome; and Rosary Schiek. Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents, William and Cecilia Fitzgerald of Oak Park. Her greatest gift was her gentle and comforting way with babies and children since her days working at St. Vincent Orphanage in Chicago, where this picture was taken. She lit up when she was surrounded by her grandchildren and will be remembered with every bright yellow color, her favorite, we see in having to move forward. "Come to me, and I will give you rest." Although I knew Ceil for a relativity short period of time I have many strong and happy memories of her. She was a warm and happy person, and she welcomed me into her life with open arms. We were on the same cruise to Cuba last fall and she certainly added to my enjoyment of the trip. Ceil greeted everyday with wide-eyed excitement. She was so happy to be at sea. We bonded over souvenir shopping (for things we would never use) and eating junk food! We would start each day with an overly sweet and gooey muffin...ALWAYS a muffin. In the evening it was all about dessert...many desserts. We tried them all; just a taste of each one! We convinced ourselves it would be rude not to at least try them because the chefs had gone to so much trouble to prepare them. She lived for her children and grandchildren and spoke of them often. In fact, all of the shopping we did was for them...souvenirs of her cruise! Ceil was easy-going and lived life at her own pace. I can only hope to live my life in the same manner. She is gone too soon and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. My condolences to her many friends and family.
