TOWN OF WESTPORT - Shirley Anne Robinson, age 83, of Town of Westport / Harlingen, Texas, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on July 25, 1941, in Flint, Mich., the daughter of Charles and Pauline (Marshan) Brookins.
Shirley was a proud graduate of Brownsville High School in Texas, where the seeds of her lifelong love for Texas were planted. Shirley's pursuit of education led her to Edgewood College, in Madison, Wis., where she not only achieved her undergraduate degree but also her master’s degree, setting the stage for a fulfilling career in finance.
Her professional life was marked by dedication and excellence, but it was Shirley's personal life that truly defined her. A devout Catholic, she found solace and strength in her faith and was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church. Shirley's commitment to her family was unwavering. She was the loving mother of Michael (Shana) Schmidt, Matthew (Emmanuelle Oustry) Schmidt, and Kristine Schmidt. She was also a cherished mother-in-law to Jerry McNabb. Her legacy continued to flourish through her grandchildren, Stephanie (Shaun) Longman, Shayne (Noel) Schmidt, Nikolas Schmidt, Karlie McNabb, Hannah Wexler, Kalya (Andy) Retzler and Auceane Oustry-Schmidt, as well as her seven great-grandchildren.
Shirley's family circle included her devoted brother, Robert (Lesa) Brookins, alongside numerous other relatives and friends who were drawn to her spirited and friendly nature. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her husband, Arthur Robinson; her daughter, Kim McNabb; and her brother, Charles Brookins.
Beyond her family and faith, Shirley had a zest for life that was evident in her many interests. She was a familiar face at the Black Hawk County Club in Madison, where she spent countless hours perfecting her golf swing. Her love for the outdoors also found her at the Harlington Country Club in Texas, where she relished the sun-soaked beaches of the Padre Islands and the company of her high school friends. Shirley's social calendar was always full, as she was a person who never met a stranger and made new friends with ease.
Shirley's hobbies were a reflection of her joyful spirit. She was a dog lover, an avid reader, ensuring that her mind was as active as her social life. Her love for playing bridge, dancing to her favorite tunes, and indulging in a bit of shopping spoke to her belief in enjoying the finer things in life. Shirley also enjoyed a cup of hot tea, made an amazing lemon meringue pie and Johnnie Walker Red Scotch was her libation of choice. Yet, it was perhaps her one-on-one time with each grandchild that truly showcased the depth of her loving nature.
A celebration of life will be held at Westshire Villages, Stratford Building, 5477 Westshire Circle, Waunakee, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
