December 10, 1927 - October 15, 2017
Obituary
MADISON- It is with great sadness that the family of George Strommen “Bud” Norgord announces his passing after a brief illness, on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at the age of 89 years. He was born December 10th, 1927 to Evan and Clara Norgord of Cambridge, Wisconsin. He was the fifth of eight children. Bud attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison for two years before being drafted into the army and deployed to Korea. Upon completion of his service, Bud returned to the UW and finished his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering. In February of 1951 Bud married his wife of 66 years, Virginia 'Ginny' Fadness, and shortly moved to Dayton, Ohio where he began working in Research and Development at Wright-Patterson Air Force base. In 1955, Bud and family moved home to Wisconsin after accepting a position with the UW-Madison Physical Plant, eventually becoming Chief Electrical Engineer, and retiring 35 years later in 1990. Bud was an avid traveler, camping coast to coast with his family during the summers and later exploring worldwide destinations, including a cruise to the Hawaiian Islands just last year, with his beloved wife Ginny. For many years, Bud and Ginny hosted friends and family at their summer home at Lake Camelot, outside of Rome, Wisconsin, creating wonderful memories of sailing, water-skiing, and generally living the good life. Upon retiring, with their children grown and grandchildren growing, Bud and Ginny began wintering each year in Port St. Lucie, Florida where he played golf and tennis for over 22 years. One of the highlights of his life happened in May of this year, when he went on the Badger Honor Flight, with his son, Doug. Bud will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Virginia “Ginny”; and his children, Christine (Lenny) Speth, Lynn (Mike) McLain, Jeanne Berry and Doug (Deb). Bud will also be fondly remembered by his three grandchildren, Nick McLain, Andy (Jacki) McLain and Melissa (Zach) Fillmore; by his sisters, Audrey Simon and Ruth Pesch; and brothers, Jim (Beth) and Dick (Joan). He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Christopher Berry; grandson, Aaron Berry; brother, Jack; and sisters, Cathryn Seeliger and Dorothy Ellestad. A memorial service for Bud will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Bud will be laid to rest at Highland Memory Gardens. Bud will always be cherished for his calm presence, easy smile, and constant laughter. With love, we thank you Bud for making this world a better place.

We will miss our dear friend of so many years. Remembering the 20 years or so of attending Badger hockey games and playing bridge afterwards. We also traveled together and flew kites off the stern of the ship. We had such fun. Love you Bud.
