Obituary
MCFARLAND - Jean Ann Holzmann, age 95, of McFarland, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at home surrounded by her adoring children. She was born on October 3, 1929, in Plymouth, the daughter of Bernard and Mabel (Roltgen) Gannon.
Jean graduated from Glenbulah High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to Eugene Holzmann on September 9, 1950, at St. Fridolin’s Catholic Church in Glenbulah. After her youngest entered school, Jean began her working career. She worked in the local community school system and completed her working career in a fulfilling position as an administrative assistant for UW Hospital, Transplant Surgery Department, retiring in 1994.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean Ann Holzmann, mother, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who left this world surrounded by all of her children. She was a loving, caring and selfless soul whose presence brought warmth and joy to all who knew her.
Jean was a gifted baker with a generous heart providing brownies to those at the Luke House, Christ the King Church and to friends and family, providing a taste of home for all who enjoyed them. She was also quick with a timely quip during any spirited conversation between her and family and friends.
More than anything, Jean lived to care for others. She had a heart big enough to hold everyone’s worries, a listening ear always ready, and a laugh that could brighten the room. Even in her final days, all that she cared about was those whom she loved and that they were healthy and safe. Jean gave so much of herself without ever asking for anything in return which is a testament of her selfless nature.
Our hearts ache with the loss of Jean; we will carry her love and laughter with us and strive to care for others the way that she did. Jean leaves behind a legacy of selfless caring for others, kindness, compassion, and warmth that will continue to inspire her children, grandchildren and all who knew her.
She was a member of Lioness Club and president from 1992-1993 and of the Women’s Guild at Christ the King.
Jean enjoyed playing piano, baking, sewing, quilting, crocheting, reading, cards, gardening, and hosting family and friends.
Jean is survived by her sons, Jeff Holzmann, Steve Holzmann, Tim (Cindy) Holzmann and Mike (Karen) Holzmann; daughters, Mary (Greg) Chaffin and Ann (Jack) Griffith; sisters, Mary Butler and Kathleen (Ralph) Tredway; brother-in-law, Don Ditter; granddaughters, Keira Holzmann, Brittany (David) Ruegemer, Betsy Chaffin, Katherine Griffith, Anna Griffith and Abbigail Holzmann; and grandsons, Oscar Holzmann, Tommy (Brianne) Chaffin, Joey (Brianna) Chaffin, Daniel Chaffin, Colin (Anne) Griffith, Patrick (Kendra) Griffith, Phillip (Alondra) Griffith and Andrew Holzmann.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; parents, Mabel and Bernard; sisters, Phyllis Bardon and Bernadine Ditter; and brothers-in-law, Richard Butler and Oscar Bardon.
