Obituary
MADISON-Lois Ann Hindhede, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at Crossroads of Sun Prairie. She was born on Oct. 12, 1934, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of James Floyd and Mabel (Elrod) Jarnagin. Lois graduated from University of Michigan with a degree in Nursing. She worked as a camp nurse for the Girls Scouts of America, as a school nurse, and a public health nurse with Cook County. She completed her Masters from Northern Illinois University and married Uffe Hindhede in Champaigne, IL, in 1967 during a major ice storm. They then moved to Moline, IL, where Lois served as a public health nurse and a consultant for the State of Illinois, where she assisted children with disabilities. She was a member of the American Chestnut Foundation, AAUW, the Zonta Club of Madison, NAMI, the American Parkinson's Disease Association, and Lake Edge United Congregational Church. Lois volunteered significant amounts of her time with the Friends of the Library, with Restore, driving seniors for RSVP, the Friendship Force, Madison Senior Center, and ushering for Overture Center. She enjoyed traveling both domestically and overseas. Lois was always incredibly active until the last six years of her life when Parkinson's prevented her from doing the many activities that gave her joy. Lois is survived by her children, Karen (Jim Kaisen) Hindhede and Neil (Amy) Hindhede; her granddaughters, Abby Hindhede and Lylah Hindhede; her sister, Reta Harring; her sister-in-law, Karen Hindhede of Denmark; as well as many other dear friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by parents; and her husband, Uffe. A celebration of her life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, WI, at a later date. I worked with Lois in Rock Island at the University of Illinois, Division of Specialized Care for Children (DDSCC) when she was the Nursing Consultant and I was the Speech and Hearing Consultant and later Program Service Manager. She was a very special lady and worked well with the families and children in the program.
You have my deepest sympathies and my prayers are with you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Lois was my landlady for several years in Moline. I considered her a good friend and a very special lady.
She had a beautiful home and was always concerned of my needs as a tennant. She made me feel a part of the family. I feel so fortunate to have called her friend. She is in God's welcoming arms.

Dear Karen and Neil,
My deepest sympathy on the death of your mother Lois. I met your parents only once or twice but then had a connection with the two of you for several years. Your mother had an active and productive and contributing life in so many ways. I appreciate very much her membership in the American Parkinson's Disease Association because my mother too had Parkinson's disease.
I know you will miss her very much.
